Yes the Voluntary Prekindergarten Program is only open to children who turn four-years of age on or before September 1st of the program year and reside in the State of Florida. However, there are other options available to you for a two year old child.

Is VPK everyday?
We encourage you to contact the VPK provider of your choice to inquire about individual program details. VPK providers have flexibility in structuring the hours per day and days per week to meet the required instructional hours. A Provider could also choose to offer a 6 hour-per-day program for 90 days.
What is the Florida standard for kindergarten?
While full-day kindergarten is not a requirement in the state of Florida, districts that do offer this type of program are required to provide the same number of instructional hours as grades 1 to 3. Thus, school must offer a minimum of 720 hours per year for full-day programs, which comes out to around 4 to 5 hours per day.
