What is a Mesonephric cyst?

What is a Mesonephric cyst?

Mesonephric cyst is a vestigial remnant of the Wolffian duct in females. In female embryos most of the mesonephric duct degenerates, although some remnants may be found in the mesovarium, where they form the epoophoron and paroophoron. In the male embryo the duct forms part of the genital tract.

What are Mesonephric remnants?

Mesonephric duct remnants (MDRs) are vestiges of the Wolffian (or “mesonephric”) ducts which regress during normal female development. [1] They are usually referred to as paroophoron, epoophoron, and Gartner’s duct. Epoophoron usually is found between ovary and fallopian tissue.

What does the mesonephric duct become in females?

In both male and female the mesonephric duct develops into the trigone of urinary bladder, a part of the bladder wall, but the sexes differentiate in other ways during development of the urinary and reproductive organs.

What forms the mesonephric duct?

The Wolffian duct (also known as the mesonephric duct) is one of the paired embryogenic tubules that drain the primitive kidney (mesonephros) to the cloaca. It also gives off a lateral branch forming the ureteric bud. In both the male and the female, the Wolffian duct develops into the trigone of the urinary bladder.

What is Fimbrial cyst?

The paraovarian/fimbrial cysts represent group of cystic masses that are adjacent to the ovary and the fallopian tube [5]. They arise from Müllerian or Wolffian structures and are uncommon in children. There are rare cases that have been reported in association with IFTT [6].

Is a Cystadenoma benign or malignant?

Ovarian cystadenomas are common benign epithelial neoplasms which carry an excellent prognosis. The two most frequent types of cystadenomas are serous and mucinous cystadenomas whereas endometrioid and clear cell cystadenomas are rare.

What are Mullerian and Wolffian ducts?

The Müllerian duct gives rise to female reproductive organs, such as the oviduct and uterus. During gestation, the Wolffian duct, which generates male reproductive organs and the kidney, is formed, and the Müllerian duct then elongates caudally along the preformed Wolffian duct.

What is Gartner’s duct?

Gartner’s duct, also known as Gartner’s canal or the ductus longitudinalis epoophori, is a potential embryological remnant in human female development of the mesonephric duct in the development of the urinary and reproductive organs. It was discovered and described in 1822 by Hermann Treschow Gartner.

What are Mullerian ducts?

The Müllerian duct (MD) is the embryonic structure that develops into the female reproductive tract (FRT), including the oviduct, uterus, cervix and upper vagina. The FRT has essential functions in mammals, providing the site of fertilization, embryo implantation and fetal development.

What is a Archinephric duct?

Wolffian duct, also called Archinephric Duct, one of a pair of tubes that carry urine from primitive or embryonic kidneys to the exterior or to a primitive bladder. In advanced vertebrates the Wolffian duct develops in conjunction with the embryonic kidneys.

What are Mesonephric and Paramesonephric ducts?

Function. In females, the paramesonephric ducts give rise to the uterine tubes, uterus, and upper portion of the vagina, while the mesonephric ducts degenerate due to the absence of male androgens. The paramesonephric ducts and the mesonephric ducts share a majority of the same mesenchyme due to Hox gene expression.

Can I get pregnant with ovarian cyst?

Having a cyst on an ovary does not usually affect one’s chances of becoming pregnant, which is why doctors will typically only investigate further if a couple has been trying to conceive naturally through regular intercourse for a year, but have not yet been successful in falling pregnant.
