Unlike the iD22, the iD14 will work on bus power; however, Audient say that USB can’t provide enough power to maintain the iD14’s sound quality while also powering mics, so if you want to engage phantom power, you have to use the supplied DC adaptor.
Do I need a preamp with Audient iD14?
Quite simply; no you can’t. The preamps of the iD14 are wired up to the convertors and there is no way around this. If you wanted to use the iD14 with an external pre-amp we would recommend using the ADAT or S/PDIF via the digital inputs.
